10 Incredible Musical Side Projects
7. Stone Sour
Corey Taylor is a modern day marvel of a vocalist. With Slipknot, Taylor has a shriek that can shake the room while also possessing a singing voice that fleshes out the breakdowns perfectly. But there's only so much you can do melodically in a band like Slipknot.
After Slipknot exploded onto the scene in the late 90's, Taylor decided to reassemble one of his older hard rock acts during breaks in Slipknot's schedule. Stone Sour helps give Corey Taylor the freedom to write more straight-forward rock songs that wouldn't necessarily fit in with Slipknot's abrasive style.
Songs like "Bother" and "Through Glass" show how talented Corey is at writing slower songs while later releases like "Do Me a Favor" prove that Corey can still turn it up to 100 with his clean vocals. As the years have gone on, Stone Sour has morphed from being a side act to a separate entity unto itself.
Slipknot may yield the more classic material, but Stone Sour's track record prove that they are certainly no slouch when it comes to crafting a moodier take on hard rock.
