10 Incredible New Pioneers Of Old-School Metal

8. Metalcore - Our Hollow, Our Home

The primary dichotomy of metalcore is that of soaring melodies mixed with crushing, extreme heaviness. And no metalcore band masters each pole of that spectrum in equal measure quite like Our Hollow, Our Home, who are currently hot off their acclaimed 2017 debut, Hartsick, and a blistering homecoming show at Southampton's Joiners bar.

While there is so much to love about this group, arguably their greatest feature is the duelling vocals of frontman Connor Hallisey and guitarist/singer Tobias Young. The former's growls are so stunningly quick and unyielding in their heaviness that they, at times, border on the edge of screamed rapping, while Young's entirely clean delivery offsets that dynamic perfectly, giving choruses like those on "Karmadillo", "Throne to the Wolves" and "Worms Wood" an accessible, but still muscular, edge.

Add into the mix sometimes djent-like riffing from Young and fellow guitarist Josh White, as well as continually massive and primal rhythms, and you get a metalcore band that is more than proficient in both charming you with gorgeous harmonies and scaring the living hell out of you with unbridled aggression.

Our Hollow, Our Home constantly keeps the listener on their toes and, in a day and age where popular music can be so by-the-book, structured and predictable, this is the type of band we need more than ever at this very moment.
