10 Incredible New Pioneers Of Old-School Metal
6. Classic British Metal - The Raven Age
The New Wave of British Heavy Metal (or NWOBHM) was arguably the first time extreme music became a true movement and genre in and of itself with, up to that point, most metal bands being considered off-shoots of either punk (like Motörhead) or blues rock (like Black Sabbath).
The hey-day of the NWOBHM began with the fall of punk in the late '70s and started to dwindle in the mid-to-late '80s as the thrash and death metal sub-genres emerged, upping the aggression and "danger" of heavy music. However, a handful of young upstarts are emulating the classic British style in the face of the modern metal realm, the best of which is Londoners The Raven Age.
Hot off their full-length debut Darkness Will Rise (2017), The Raven Age is a band already standing in the Fast Track queue for stardom. Not only has this year heralded their acclaimed album, but it has also seen the quintet embark on a plethora of massive, arena-level tours, supporting the likes of Anthrax, Mastodon and Iron Maiden.
Of course, guitarist George Harris being the son of Maiden's bassist Steve Harris doesn't hurt either.
