10 Incredible New Pioneers Of Old-School Metal

4. Thrash Metal - Act Of Defiance

It seems apropos to name technical supergroup Act of Defiance as the next generation of thrash metal, as their genesis came from one of the most enduring line-ups of speedy innovators Megadeth.

In 2014, lead guitarist Chris Broderick and drummer Shawn Drover left Dave Mustaine's shed of shred due to "artistic and musical differences" and, despite proving a monumental gamble on their part, the duo resurfaced together once more mere months later, having joined up with ex-Scar the Martyr vocalist Henry Derek and Shadows Fall's Matt Bachand on bass.

What these four men, collectively known as Act of Defiance, would go on to create was something above and beyond what anyone would have predicted: a thrashing, intricate, mind-bending debut entitled Birth and the Burial (2015), jam-packed with raw ferocity and intense riffs that demonstrated pure, unshackled skill.

And with Act of Defiance currently well underway in recording their sophomore album, you would be very, very wise to hop onto this group's blistering bandwagon, before it leaves you behind in a cloud of its thrash metal dust.
