10 Incredible New Pioneers Of Old-School Metal
3. Progressive Metal - ONI
Taking their name from the Japanese demon, ONI is a metal band that drowns itself deliciously in almost every musical aspect of the immense prog world. Not only are they ungodly heavy, but they also have a beyond proficient mastery of melody, technicality, unyielding speed and, most importantly, being more than a little bit crazy.
As mind-bending as ONI's music is, its defining and headline-stealing feature is Johnny DeAngelis and his electric xylophone.
Seriously.
Somehow, ONI is so progressively cool that they have managed to make that annoying piece of percussion that you'd irritatingly tap when you were three years old into the leading feature of a badass metal band.
Add into the mix a 2016 debut album with the even more badass title of Ironshore and even a guest vocal performance on the record by walking, talking badass Randy Blythe from Lamb of God, and you have the literal definition of "badassness" contained into one group.
Badass.
