10 Incredible New Pioneers Of Old-School Metal
2. Death Metal - Venom Prison
If their constant coverage from the likes of Metal Hammer, Kerrang! and more after their debut album Animus dropped in 2016 hasn't tipped you off yet, Venom Prison are really, really, really good.
One of the most brutal female-fronted acts of all time, this band is practically drowning in nihilism and despondency, providing a visceral live show unlike any other band in the British scene right now.
Quite simply, this band gets everything about extreme metal right: the morbid, twisted vocals, the pummelling guitars, the faster-than-lightning rhythms, the disgusting imagery and artwork (seriously, don't look at the Animus album cover if you consider yourself easily freaked out).
Venom Prison is not the most complex band in the world, nor are they the most subtle. But the hit the death metal nail on the head so ungodly hard and so unbelievably perfect that, like it or not, they are the next generation of a genre first invented in the dark depths of 1980s' Florida.
The likes of Death, Immolation and Obituary would and should be proud.
