8. Going Nowhere
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9DMKlZeuIDo Inspired by the classic songwriting of pop genius Burt Bacharach and the endless escapism felt by Noel Gallagher in his Burnage beginnings, 'Going Nowhere' originally appeared as the B-side to 'Stand By Me', before being included on compilation album 'The Masterplan'. It should've been included on a studio album, and it should've been a massive anthem for the band, signalling orchestral usage and refrained dynamics for Oasis in a time when they were simply turning everything up to 11. Euphoric strings echo around Gallagher's harmonies, as he sings "I'm gonna be a millionaire, so can you take me there? Wanna be wild 'cause my life's so tame", relaying the sentiments of any twenty-something hopeful of making it in the big bad world, and boy did he deliver on his prophecy. 'Going Nowhere' may have gone nowhere in terms of its release, but it's still held in high regard by fans around the world, helping to showcase the singer-songwriter potential that Noel Gallagher is now enjoying so much success in with his High Flying Birds.
