10 Incredible Oasis Songs That Weren't Singles

4. Underneath The Sky

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=opjyobkpvgI&feature=kp Jangly pop may not be one of Oasis' strong points. 'She's Electric' was nonsensical, 'Stay Young' was nauseatingly upbeat, and 'Digsy's Dinner' is routinely seen as the ugly duckling from an otherwise stellar debut album. But 'Underneath The Sky', B-side to 'Don't Look Back In Anger', managed to reel in the chirpiness and instead focus on the catchy hooks and blissful harmonies that help elevate any great pop song to the top. Inspired by a pocket-book of travellers' quotes that Noel came across, it's full of the wistful dreaminess that became so synonymous with Oasis' earlier lyrics; escapism ("So wish me away to an unknown place, am I living in a land with no name?"), trying to find one's self ("He has no face and he has no name, and his whereabouts are sort of unknown"), and the good old-fashioned belief that you don't need much to have a good time ("All he needs is his life in a suitcase, it belongs to a friend of a friend. And as we drink to ourselves, we'll amuse ourselves). It's no wonder Noel cites it as one of his favourite songs, given how it checks off all the essential lyrical themes that made Oasis such a band for the people in their earlier days.
