5. Guess God Thinks I'm Abel
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sQ8s3oIvfUU Despite being based around the hilarious idea that Liam Gallagher wrote it after a supposed drunken confrontation with God (where his holiness proclaimed that Noel was Cain and Liam was Abel), 'Guess God Thinks I'm Abel' manages to be one of the best songs Liam ever penned. While that's not much in the way of competition, it certainly doesn't detract from the quality of the song, which mixes chiming, inverted chords with hauntingly resonant melodies. The song was often used as the band's reintroduction during the encore of their live gigs, and its heavier, more brooding live adaptation helped create an atmosphere thicker than the one you'd get if you mixed up the brothers' names when talking to them. Regardless of its use as more a segue than a standalone classic - both live and on 'Don't Believe The Truth' - '...Abel' is a welcome surprise for anyone doubting the songwriting merits of the younger Gallagher brother, and a respite from the usual balls-out rock 'n' roll that the band usually churned out.
