2. Gas Panic!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D431CwC9wTw&feature=kp Those personal problems that were mentioned earlier became an increasing part of Noel Gallagher's life circa-1999. Having gone cold turkey to wean himself off his legendary drug habit, he started taking prescription drugs before becoming addicted to those as well. Inspired by some "pretty serious panic attacks" that he was having at the time, much of the resulting album 'Standing on the Shoulder of Giants' dealt with themes of fear, anxiety and the feeling of being possessed. Never was that more evident than in the sixth track on the album, 'Gas Panic!'. As Liam rasps, "What tongueless ghost of sin crept through my curtains? Sailing on a sea of sweat on a stormy night?" it's enough to paint a picture of what must've been going on in Noel's world during such troublesome times, and the psychological difficulties that drug addiction can cause. Ironically, he went on to state, "It was supposed to be this really quiet acoustic, mellow little trip really", but having roped the rest of the band and producer Spike Stent into the studio, the song took on a life of its own. Littered with synths, guitars, drum loops, mellotrons, flutes and everything but the kitchen sink, it was a huge wall of psychedelic sound that helped carry the album, and its even bigger live incarnation was always a highlight.
