10 Indie Rock Bands That Released 5 Great Albums In A Row
9. Pavement
Throughout their glory years, Pavement always seemed to be left out of the conversation of heavy-hitting bands. While their slacker attitude and disaffected lyrics from Steve Malkmus were all the rage back in the '90s, people were more concerned with the more accessible angst coming from bands like Nirvana and Pearl Jam. As the grunge scene came and went though, these guys went on an album run for the ages.
Though not every one of the band's albums is a must-hear for the entire genre, they do bring something unique to the table. With the one-two punch of Slanted and Enchanted and Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain the band were setting the benchmark for what indie rock would sound like at the turn of the millennium, while also taking jabs at some bands along the way on songs like "Range Life."
As they moved into the back half of the '90s, albums like Wowee Zowee were still good but not as groundbreaking as their debut. Even though the band tried to expand and even worked with Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich on Terror Twilight, they decided to split up rather than try to capitalize on their sound. It's a shame that the band called it a day when they were still doing good work, but it's better to be grateful for what we were given.
