10. The Greedies - A Merry Jingle
A commercial decline in the quality of their respective bands music could have been responsible for this rather unusual collaboration, but there was also a strong interest from Thin Lizzy front man Phil Lynott in the emergence of punk rock. His friendship with The Sex Pistols led to the formation of a band combining members of Lizzy and the Pistols called "The Greedies" (originally "The Greedy B*stards", but edited - in somewhat unpunk-like fashion - for public politeness). The band played Thin Lizzy covers and also covers of Sex Pistols songs released after the departure of John Lydon from the group. Steve Jones and Paul Cook collaborated with Lynott on this rather bizarre Christmas single that was to feature in heavy rotation and TV exposure that year, and despite the groups' strong friendship and continued touring it remains their only official release and something of a forgotten gem. Lyrically the song makes virtually no sense except to wish both a Happy Christmas and a Happy New Year and also contains several solos. Sometimes it's nice to see infamous musicians do something for a bit of fun.
