10 Legendary Musicians That Play Multiple Instruments
4. Paul McCartney - The Beatles
When the Beatles first got started in Liverpool, none of them were looking to become musical virtuosos or anything. These were just a bunch of guys that were wowed by the power of rock and roll and wanted to try their hand at making their own British twist on American artists. Once Beatlemania started to make its way across the world though, Paul McCartney decided to broaden his musical palette on every single record.
While you really get to see the entire band mature throughout their decade long career, Paul was always looking to get into more sonic territory, whether that meant experimenting with avant garde loops on Tomorrow Never Knows or sweet sappy ballads on Eleanor Rigby. Though he may have been known as the bass player in the group, Paul takes the reins of every other instrument in the band as well, playing the guitar solo on George Harrison's Taxman and even filling in on drums for Dear Prudence during the White Album sessions after Ringo took a hiatus from the group.
In the wake of the Beatles' breakup, Paul's ability behind instruments has only grown with time, being proficient behind ukulele, mandolin, piano, drums, and recorder to name just a few, all while overseeing different classical productions like Ocean Kingdom or Liverpool Oratorio. Not bad for a guy who claims that he doesn't even know how to read sheet music.
