10 Legendary Rock Albums That Were Produced Terribly

5. Let It Be - The Beatles

A lot of the albums on this list tend to have production that sounds a bit too trashy for its own good. For all of the accolades that a lot of these artists have, the final product behind most of these records tend to sound closer to the kind of amateur hour stuff that you would hear from local bands. There is such a thing as overproduction though, and Phil Spector's trademark sound did nothing to endear him to the Beatles.

When the Beatles were following up the White Album, they decided to shelve the material that would turn into Let It Be when they began work on Abbey Road. The label demanded one more album though, and Spector was brought in to turn the tapes into something that resembled an album, which makes for a pretty jarring experience from one song to the next. While some of these tracks have that ramshackle bar band sound the band was going for, the Wall of Sound style behind ballads like Across the Universe and the Long and Winding Road tend to sound fairly dated these days.

The change was not lost on the rest of the Fabs either, with Paul McCartney being infuriated for what they had done to this project and eventually releasing Let It Be...Naked in the '00s that gave us the album as Paul would have wanted it to be released. From the sound of all of the behind the scenes drama, these guys seemed to be so stressed about putting this record out that they forgot the point behind its title.
