10 Legends That Guested On Hard Rock Songs
6. Right Turn - Alice in Chains
None of the players in the Seattle scene could really be considered snobs for who they decided to play with. Before grunge really became the big word, there were bands that were more than happy to swap members left and right, with one band almost having a different lineup depending on what month you saw them. Alice in Chains was always very insular, until it was time to mess around in their deep cuts.
Looking to mess around with some acoustic songs, SAP turned into their first celebrated unplugged EP, with tracks like Brother and Got Me Wrong becoming staples of their MTV appearance. It wasn’t all serious though, with Right Turn being just a little throwaway song that decided to horse around with as a joke. There might be a joke-y atmosphere in the air, but the pedigree is anything but, bringing together Chris Cornell of Soundgarden to sing a verse and passing the mic to Mark Arm for the final verse, complete with the same kind of verbal whine that always came through on the best Mudhoney songs.
Though none of these singers sound remotely like each other, hearing them play opposite one another just feels right, so much so that they were credited as ‘Alice Mudgarden’ in the liner notes. For all of the songs in Alice’s catalog about pain, this is the kind of song that wouldn’t feel out of place being played around a campfire.
