10 Legends That Guested On Hard Rock Songs
7. Sunday Rain - Foo Fighters
By the time the Foo Fighters were working on Concrete and Gold, there was no reason to doubt Good Guy Grohl any time soon. After crisscrossing the United States for their Sonic Highways series, Dave wanted to get back to basics and booked a studio in California with superproducer Greg Kurstin coming on to man the board. The Foos were already on top of the world, but they also wanted to have a few friends come along as well.
During the recording, there was one song that jumped out called Sunday Rain, which worked much better with drummer Taylor Hawkins singing rather than Dave. This should have been an easy fix with Dave going back behind the kit like he did in his Nirvana days, but Dave wanted to dream bigger. In one of the gutsiest moves of his career, Dave called up Paul McCartney and asked him if he would be interested in playing on a Foos song. Though it was originally thought of as a joke, things got a lot more serious once Macca found himself in Los Angeles around the same time, eventually going behind the skins and hammering out a nice pulse for the rest of the song.
The weirdest part is that this is far from the wildest collaboration going on on this album though, from Justin Timberlake doing the background vocals on Make It Right and Shawn Stockman from Boyz II Men creating a choir of vocals on the title track. When it comes to the rockers accounted for on this record though, you can do much worse than one of the Beatles.
