10 Live Albums That Are Better Than Studio Albums
6. Alive 2007 - Daft Punk
So...how exactly do you make an EDM live album interesting? For all of the audience interaction that you have throughout the songs, you're still just playing some of the best live mixes off of your laptop and hoping to generate the same kind of energy that you did on the proper album. Daft Punk knew they needed something more than just their hits, and Alive 2007 gave us the mashups that we didn't know we needed in our life.
While most of these songs are hits in their own right scattered throughout the cyborgs' catalog, the real quirk behind this record is how they're able to mix and match every one of their songs into each other, even if it means bringing in completely different songs. Touch It may have been a hit for Busta Rhymes from around the same time, but taking that backing track and layering it on top of songs like Technologic work almost too well when you hear them in context.
This album even seems to have the power to retroactively make some past Daft Punk projects better than they already were. Since Human After All had a bit of a shaky reception upon release, hearing Robot Rock work in conjunction with Oh Yeah or Brainwasher mixed with Rollin and Scratchin felt like they were meant to be listened to this way from the beginning. Every one of Daft Punk's albums have been meant to be a full listener's experience from back to front, but Alive 2007 feels like the moment where they realized their full potential.
