10 Live Covers Of Hard Rock Songs You Need To Hear
2. All Star/Cant Stop - Pomplamoose
As much as the internet might have its downsides - be it poisoning the minds of our youth, harvesting our data to sell us sh*t we don't need, or generally causing a whole lot of unforeseen mental health problems - there are some positives. One being the ability for musicians to share their content with a much wider audience than they would have otherwise been able to do.
Pomplamoose would fall into this category, an unlikely musical project headed by Jack Conte, the CEO of Patreon, and his singer-songwriter wife, Nataly Dawn. Accompanied by a bunch of equally talented session musicians they've caused something of a stir on YouTube, performing live renditions of a bunch of well-known songs.
With an infectious enthusiasm, they're able to combine well-known tracks from a variety of genres into an oh-so-satisfying original sound. Transposing the lyrics from Smash Mouth's biggest hit, All Star, on top of a medley of Red Hot Chili Peppers riffs, and then transitioning into the All Star chorus while singing Californication certainly deserves credit.
Sadly, on 18 May 2021, lead singer Nataly Dawn announced she had been diagnosed with a form of skin cancer and as result the group has been releasing far fewer tracks in recent months.
