10 Lost Albums That Were Released Years Later
1. Lifehouse - The Who
Once Tommy became a cultural touchstone, the Who had the entire rock world watching their every move. Since this was one of the first ambitious concept albums by a major rock band, it was only a matter of time before Pete Townshend doubled down and released the record that would show us where rock was going next. Yeah, just reading that last sentence will tell you why the production for Lifehouse fell apart pretty quickly.
Now that you have one of the greatest albums ever created under your belt, how are you expected to do the entire thing again? Well, Townshend looked like he was going to for a little while, with the Lifehouse project coming together as our protagonist Bobby tries to find some sort of salvation through music. Though it seemed to borrow a few cues from Tommy, things seemed to be coming together until Pete suffered a near-mental breakdown trying to explain everything to the band members.
Eventually they decided to scrap the whole thing, using the few songs that were already finished for the album Who's Next. Considering those were the table scraps though, fans have wondered what would have happened if Lifehouse had came out at the time. Pete has made several attempts to recreate the spirit of what he was talking about, but since some of the songs have already seen the light of day, the Lifehouse we know today feels more like a collector's item when looking back on everything.
