10 Lost Albums That Were Released Years Later
2. The Black Album - Prince
As eclectic as Prince's career was during his prime, you can never really say there was a dull moment. Up until the '90s when he changed his name to a symbol, the amount of quality material brought out by the Purple One was more than any other pop artist in the world, from Sign O the Times to movie soundtracks like Purple Rain and Batman. Once he decided to do some soul searching though, we got robbed of one of the hidden gems of his career.
After the massive amount of material that came with Sign O the Times, Prince was all set to release the record that he wanted to make with the Black Album. Being his return to roots, this was supposed to win back his audience that he lost by going in a more pop direction.
Or at least...that's what was supposed to happen. In the middle of the sessions, Prince underwent a spiritual epiphany and was convinced that he had created something truly evil, making the musical 180 of releasing Lovesexy instead. Never before has an artist completely hated their own work this much, going so far as to include an apology in the video for the song Alphabet St. There's not thinking your record is up to snuff, but this is practically one notch below trying to start beef with yourself.
