10 Lost Albums That Were Released Years Later
8. Songs From The Black Hole - Weezer
After Weezer became everyone's favorite nerd rock band in the mid '90s, Rivers Cuomo was burnt the hell out. Since this wasn't a guy who was necessarily ready for fame and fortune, the next few years saw him abstaining from music altogether and taking some time to go to college at Harvard. When he resurfaced though, Rivers had a vision for a new and improved version of what Weezer could be.
Or...that's what could have happened if Pinkerton wasn't a thing. Before the idea for the emotional sophomore album came up, Rivers' plan was to release a rock opera centered around space travel called Songs from the Black Hole. The band eventually took on the project and actually managed to get a lot of work done before Matt Sharp did a similar sounding project first with his band the Rentals.
Not wanting to look like a one trick pony, the band decided to scrap the project entirely and go with a more basic album approach, with Rivers eventually making stories about how uncomfortable he was being a rockstar. Considering the amount of bile that was thrown Pinkerton's way in the early days, there are probably millions of fans clamoring to hear the real rock opera. Though we have the tapes for what it could have been, it's unlikely that we'll ever see a new version of Songs from the Black Hole.
