10 Love Songs That Are Actually Incredibly Dark
9. Easy Target - Blink-182
Face Down was always meant to be a look into something more than just pop punk though. If you look at what the rest of the pop punk scene had to offer at the time, you had many songs that were either jaded, heartbroken, and in some cases not the most respectful to the opposite sex most of the time. Blink-182 definitely had their campy side as well, but the girl at the center of Easy Target gave them reason to be afraid.
Though most of the self titled Blink record revolves around some pretty morbid subjects, Easy Target is almost more straight up punk or alternative rock than pop punk, as Tom DeLonge talks about this screwed up fairy tale love he has, comparing her to the flower that's placed on his casket and almost preparing himself for the pain that he's bound to face at the hands of her. When Mark Hoppus finally comes in, things don't let up either, talking about this girl eventually slitting his throat and cautioning everyone in her path to run as far away as they can, all while Tom screeches to be set free in the background.
And it's at this point that you realize that these are the same guys that wrote songs like All the Small Things and Dysentery Gary back in the day. Fame can change a person, but it can also make for some pretty gnarly romantic situations as well.
