10 Massive Albums That Never Lived Up To The Hype
5. Neighborhoods - Blink-182
It feels like a different world these days now that Blink-182 is officially back together. Ever since Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker had to kick Tom DeLonge out of the band back in 2015, there were always lingering suspicions as to when he would come back to the fold, with Matt Skiba only feeling like a replacement member. Now that things are all good though, let’s not get our hopes too high because of the last time this whole thing happened.
Although the band may have been on at least decent terms during the making of Neighborhoods, what we ended up getting was not necessarily a return to the Take Off Your Pants era of the band. Having much more of an alternative rock slant, this was the kind of strange experiment that the self-titled record had only hinted at, as Tom brought in some of his influences from Angels and Airwaves to craft something that was a lot more heady than what fans were looking for. While the actual songs may have held up decently like Ghost on the Dance Floor and After Midnight, the rest of the album tended to hit a sour note with some of the purists, looking for the band to return to the more playful style that they had going back in their glory years.
It’s not like the band members were reluctant to leave it behind either, since they were recording in separate studios and never really worked together on the record that much. Pop punk has always been about your carefree adolescence, and this just may have been a case of growing up a little too quickly.
