Jimmy Eat World’s Bleed American is widely considered to be one of the most important, influential and brilliant albums in the history of pop-punk and emo. It’s full of the hits, the festival anthems such as The Middle and Sweetness, as well as ballad Hear You Me (which was most likely in every middle school disco circa 2003). However Futures is Bleed American’s even stronger sibling, the follow up that proved the band could turn the success of a massive record into something vital for their fans.

Futures received a notoriously sniffy review from Pitchfork, a write up that could have never predicted the amount of impact that the record would have on people. The album is just as massive as its predecessor but has this uncanny ability to understand highschoolers and awkward young adults.

Despite the band having formed over ten years before the album’s release, Jimmy Eat World knew exactly who they were singing to and did it with all of their heart. Futures still sounds just as important all these years later, and like all classics it will last forever.
