The Album

Preppy in an oh so British kind of way, this little indie outfit from Brighton grabbed Britain by its dancing shoes in 2006 and didn't let go until Arctic Monkey mania took over that same year. Yeah, you read between the lines, they ended up being deathly dull.

But that's not to say Inside In / Inside Out isn't a stormer of a debut. Kicking off with the stripped back loveliness of 'Seaside' and followed up by earwormy hits in 'Ooh La' and 'You Don't Love Me', the album sold by the shedload and emerging bands today cite this longplay as being an influence.

Time has been kind to this album, released amid the chaos of a fizzling out Libertines and nu indie pomp of The Fratellis and Kaiser Chiefs this one still holds up. Sadly the band's follow up, Konk, was the start of a quiet decline for a band that don't have enough character or heart to release another album anything like this one.

Best Song

The low-fi grooves of 'Naive' will forever drift out from Radio 1's playlist, but the song that deserves to be played on the airwaves over and over again is 'Sofa Song' - two minutes of pure filth.
