10 Metal Albums That Should Have Been Great (But Totally Weren't)

7. Morbid Angel - Illud Divinum Insanus

If this list teaches you, the beautiful reader, one thing, it should be this: Do not rile up elitist death metal fans.

Because, for Illud Divinum Insanus (2011), Morbid Angel did not learn that lesson. And by God did they get roasted for it!

Hated by the band's oldest followers and receiving mixed reviews in the press, Illud Divinum Insanus was supposed to be Morbid Angel's homecoming, coming a full eight years since their previous album, Heretic (2003).

After nearly a decade of waiting, however, fans were greeted with an industrial metal-inspired dud that many have since called the band's very own St. Anger (2003). They felt betrayed, they felt vengeful and, to this very day, Morbid Angel has not released a record since. So, for many, for the time being, this is the enduring memory that sticks in the mind when they think of the term "Morbid Angel".

If there ever is a follow-up album, it would probably be best for Trey Azagthoth and crew to return to their original, straight-forward, anarchic, death metal ways.
