10 Metal Albums With ONE Bad Song
3. Useful Idiot - Tool
Out of all the great prog rock bands to come and go throughout the years, Tool needs to be commended for at least having a sense of humor about themselves. I mean, this is a band who made their first record include a hidden track that wouldn't play until you hit track 69. These guys clearly have a dumb side to them, but it gets a little harder to stomach when they start messing with the listener.
Using instrumental interludes for the majority of their career, Aenema is one of the few records where almost every interlude works. And then Useful Idiot comes on and you wonder what in the hell you just witnessed. As soon as the song starts you get different layers of feedback and a few minutes of droning noise in between the silence.
Again, it's not like Tool can't pull off these little snippet songs either. On the exact same album, we have a song like Die Eier Von Satan, which is literally just a German translation of a recipe for how to make hashish brownies. As it stands though, the rest of the album would have been much better off if they just cut this piece of dead air for not fitting. Considering this album is over an hour, you can't honestly say that they went over the entire record and thought that this was worth including.
