10 Metal Bands That Have Never Made A Bad Album
2. Overkill
Sweet Jesus, eighteen?! EIGHTEEN?!
It is testament to the sheer genius of thrash’s most underrated sons, Overkill, that they have made twice as many albums as such veterans as Machine Head, Pantera and Satyricon and every single one of them has ranged from good to sensational. Mixing San Francisco thrash with the more melodic bombast of New Jersey’s massive hair metal scene, Bobby Blitz and co. have been awesome from day one, causing an underground sh*tstorm with their 1985 debut, Feel the Fire, that hasn’t gone away since.
By the late ‘80s, Overkill were holding their own in the saturated speed metal market, receiving continued acclaim for their marvellous Under the Influence/Years of Decay/Horrorscope trilogy. Even during the mid-1990s, when thrash had become all but passé due to the monumental popularity of nu metal and grunge, Overkill were still pumping out nothing but quality with W.F.O. and The Killing Kind.
Today, Overkill are heavy metal’s ol’ reliable, coming off an especially acclaimed quadrilogy in Ironbound, The Electric Age, White Devil Armory and the brand new Grinding Wheel. Truly, this is a magnificent quintet that can do no wrong, understanding and staying true to what makes them great for over thirty years.
It would be a safe bet that, with the stage that this band is currently at, these guys probably don’t even know how to make a bad record.
