10 Metal Bands That Went Acoustic
6. Two Steps Behind - Def Leppard
Every hair metal band coming off of the Sunset Strip were only as good as the power ballads that they made. Aside from the party rock anthems that would get played into the ground at every sporting event known to man, the sensitive side of these bands are what sent them onto the top of the charts. Though Def Leppard have certainly become hair metal royalty at this point, they only decided to go the full unplugged route once.
Appearing as a bonus track on the film soundtrack to Last Action Hero, Two Steps Behind was originally a B-side that wasn't really supposed to be a hit by any stretch of the imagination. Granted, it's understandable why this wasn't really meant to be a single, considering the Leppards' track record has always been relying on clean production from one track to another. How the hell do you fit a slow jam in the middle of everything?
As much as this seemed different from the Mutt Lange-ified version of the band, Two Steps Behind remains one of Leppard's greatest sleeper hits, having just as much staying power these days as songs like Rock of Ages and Pour Some Sugar on Me. While Leppard looks best when at maximum capacity, it sometimes works to turn the lights down a little bit.
