10 Metal Cover Songs That Sound Nothing Like The Original
2. Sabbath Bloody Sabbath - Cardigans
When looked at outside of the rock spectrum, The Cardigans seem like they should be the furthest thing from the harsher side of rock. Given how much jangle pop and indie rock is present in their sound, there's no reason to believe that these guys have a drop of darkness in their souls. Then again, they are responsible for making one of the cutest metal covers of all time in Sabbath Bloody Sabbath.
Yes, you heard that right. The geniuses behind songs like Lovefool do have a track record for hopping on tracks by classic metal artists, with this one being a co-opting of one of the founders of heavy metal. Though the entire song just feels wrong coming out of this Swedish pop rock act, the sheer shock factor alone is enough to give it at least a little bit of charm, as Nina Persson takes on Ozzy's belting voice with her delightful falsetto.
It's almost like the song is trying to piss off the hardcore metal fanbase, as the Cardigans double down on their sugary pop sound as the track goes along. As much as this might be known as a travesty in the hardened sides of the metal scene, this is just the kind of tongue in cheek humor that we need a lot more of in our cover songs.
