10 Mistakes Purposefully Left In Classic Rock Songs
1. A Day in the Life - Beatles
There's really no way to pick a favorite Beatles song amongst Fab Four fans. While some might have their personal favorites, there are far too many fine moments in these moptops' discography to single one out as their crowning achievement. Even though some flock to songs like Yesterday or Hey Jude, die-hards always seem to find something fascinating about A Day in the Life.
Arriving at the end of Sgt. Pepper's, this song was quickly picked up as one of their best, as John Lennon and Paul McCartney's songwriting talents are pitted against one another. Most people tend to get shivers when the orchestra builds up, but there's something a tad suspicious about that final chord. Knowing that they needed something epic to follow the orchestra swell, the resulting piano chord was done by five people hitting the chord across three different pianos, with the engineer turning up the faders to get every last second of it.
While nothing screams epic quite like this, it did come at the expense of some worn-in shoes. Though it's unclear as to who committed the crime, the volume was apparently turned up so loud that you can actually hear someone's shoe squeak on the recording floor as the chord is held out. So next time you throw on Sgt. Pepper's, pay close attention to that final sound and decide what it is for yourself.
