10 Modern Rock Bands You Need To Listen To
3. Creeper
It seems that the next wave of new rock and roll seems deadset on having something harsher take its place. Though nu metal was already a pretty tough sell in the late '90s, the throwbacks of Ghost and even the metallic side of Halestorm have been showing the new school as something a lot more fierce than something like Blink-182. Granted, that's not to say the worlds of heaviness and pop punk can't get along every now and again.
Ever since the mid 2010's, Creeper have been one of the biggest names to watch out for in modern rock, taking the macabre nature of something like AFI and ramping it up to 10 on their debut album. Although things only seemed to be getting darker for them going forward, Sex, Death and the Infinite Void saw them going almost completely off course, settling into an almost rockabilly groove. While some fans may have been disappointed, this might be only the beginning of something much bigger.
As much as they like to pay lip service to the man, these guys feel like they're sculpting a career on par with David Bowie, as they take different elements of their sound and twist them around into something new and inventive. Say all you want about their second record being a sophomore slump....these guys are just getting started.
