10 More Great Rock Music Singles That Never Appeared On An Album

1. Albatross - Fleetwood Mac

Before they became the classic rock band cherished by mums and dads the world over, Fleetwood Mac were an entirely different outfit fronted by the enigmatic Peter Green.

This is a guy who fell out with the rest of the band because he wanted to give all their money away, just for context.

Green's most enduring contribution to Mac has to be the instrumental Albatross, which gave the group their first and only UK number one single.

Just think about that; Go Your Own Way, The Chain, Little Lies, Everywhere, Tusk, Dreams, none of them got to the top spot in Britain, but this wordless track named after a seabird did.

What a world.

To be fair, Albatross is one of the most relaxing pieces of music ever written, structured to imitate the sound of waves lapping at the shore. It was so popular that it didn't need an album to carry it, though it was later made one of the featured songs on the compilation The Pious Bird of Good Omen.

Fans of 70s Mac might not even recognise this song as the same band, but before Rumours was ever a thing, this is what they were best known for.
