10 More Great Rock Music Singles That Never Appeared On An Album

5. Magic Bus - The Who

Like their 1960s rock contemporaries, The Who also put out a bunch of singles on their own.

Their first three songs never made it to a studio release, including the famous I Can't Explain. Other non-albumers include Substitute, Pictures of Lily, and The Seeker, as well as this stone cold classic from 1968.

Magic Bus, which is about a man taking the same bus every day to see his girlfriend, is now a staple of The Who's live shows, often devolving to a 15+ minute instrumental jam. It was written during the sessions for the band's debut album, My Generation, but didn't get laid down until three years later.

It turned out that a lot of people wanted to take a ride, so the record company wanted to capitalise on its success. They engineered the release of Magic Bus: The Who on Tour, a compilation record with the single as one of its main selling points.

Should this disqualify this song from the list? Possibly, but there were no other original songs on the album, making it more of a cash grab than an actual album.

If its placement here angers, then you can address your complaints to Decca.
