10 More Happy Songs That Are Insanely Dark
3. Bullet - Hollywood Undead
The curators of some top-tier 'it's not a phase, mom' tunes, Hollywood Undead's legacy is already cemented in the Mount Rushmore of the Emo era.
The rap-rock group released their second studio album, American Tragedy, in the Spring of 2011, and though there are a plethora of bangers featured (as well as some stinkers), track 11 is the one that stopped audiences in their tracks with some of the most horrifying, self-harming lyrics that made it to commercial success.
Bullet is immensely listenable, despite depicting a man's descent into heavy suicidal thoughts. Not only does the tune delve into such themes, but it doesn't shy away from describing the intricacies of the thoughts, as scarred wrists, a 'stomach full of pills' and sirens being heard in the distance all combine to give the song an immense honesty and realism.
The chorus plays out almost like a TV commercial jingle, and the more the tune plays out the faster it becomes morbidly infectious. Perhaps this was purposefully so, creating an internal conflict in the listener surrounding the narrator's contentment with the loss of their life?
It's all speculation, and I'll be sure to put more thought into it...
...Once my foot stops tapping, that is.
