10 More Hard Rock Music Artists Who Released Two Great Albums In The Same Year
2. Black Flag - My War & Family Man (& Slip It In)
There is so much to unpack here.
Hardcore punk innovators Black Flag started their insanely busy year of 1984 with March's My War. Though it wasn't the punchy, maniacal follow-up to the band's debut that many wanted, it still performed well.
Kurt Cobain's first ever concert was on the tour for this album, which has to count for something.
Then there was September's Family Man, which... well, it's weird.
It's mainly a spoken word album, featuring vocalist Henry Rollins delivering poetry over the top of jazz-style songs. Not everybody loved it, but it is credited with introducing alternative spoken word to a larger audience, which has to count for something.
Sneaking in right at the last second was December's Slip It In, which focused more on instrumentals and Rollins' own songs. Some people regard this as an independent masterpiece which, all together now, has to count for something!
These records may not have appealed to everyone, but you cannot deny just how impressive Black Flag's work ethic was during this period.
To make matters worse, the band also released two more albums in 1985, bringing their total up to five in just 19 months!
No wonder they didn't release anything else until 2013.
