10 More Huge Songs That Bands Refused To Play Live
7. The Conjuring - Megadeth
For their second album in 1986, thrash gods Megadeth turned out Peace Sells… But Who’s Buying?, which still stands up as one of the best albums the genre has ever produced.
Though it only spawned two singles - Peace Sells, and Wake Up Dead - many of the other songs on this record have become very famous, including The Conjuring. It was written by Dave Mustaine about an experience he had playing with dark magic as a child, which honestly explains a lot about his personality.
If Mustaine came out tomorrow and said he’d been possessed all these years, everybody would believe him. However, as the guitar legend grew older, his religious views began to solidify to the point where he now considers himself a committed Christian. There’s nothing in the Bible that directly forbids heavy metal music, which is why he hasn’t had to change jobs.
As a result, he wasn’t so keen on playing something containing the lyrics “I am the Devil's advocate/A salesman, if you will”. Between 2001 and 2018, The Conjuring was banished from Megadeth’s sets, although it has since been allowed back in, albeit with different lyrics.
