10 Most Anticipated Metal Albums Of 2018

7. Skeletonwitch – TBA

In 2016, Skeletonwitch’s EP The Apothic Gloom expanded upon the bands black metal formula with lengthy tracks and a greater integration of instruments like acoustic guitars.

The disc saw new lead singer Adam Clemens survived his trial by fire (as best demonstrated by the popularity of The Apothic Gloom’s single, “Well of Despair”, which is now one of the band’s biggest hits) – but whether or not Skeletonwitch’s apparent desire to experiment did remains to be heard.

Either way, the quintet’s sixth album, which has been confirmed for a spring 2018 release, is one bound to excite the group’s legions of fans. Produced by Converge guitarist Kurt Ballou (who’s also helmed albums from the likes of High on Fire, Code Orange and Kvelertak) and set to be mixed by the master Fredrik Nordström, who also handled the levels on Opeth’s magnum opus Blackwater Park (2001), the list of names involved with the new Skeletonwitch disc alone is enough to get hairs standing on end.

With so many lauded experts in their respective fields working on the album, as well as the metal masters Skeletonwitch themselves, there’s very little chance that the band’s upcoming release will be their first weak link.
