Ohhh hell yes. Here we go, it’s the big one, the one album to rule them all… System Of A Down are releasing new material in 2017! When it was announced last year that the genre-benders were back in the studio, the internet exploded in a sea of superlatives and poorly spelled tweets in all-caps. It’s no misnomer to describe SOAD as one of the biggest bands on the planet right now, and the idea that they’re releasing their first new music since 2005 is enough to make even the most frosty metalhead wet their pants.

We don’t yet know when the new album will surface, but with a headline slot at Download festival this June, you’ve got to bet it’ll be coming this summer. But what the hell will it sound like? It’s impossible to second-guess what System are going to do (just look at their back catalogue), but as one of the most politically-charged and socially-aware bands of the past 20 years, you know there’s going to be some choice lyrics for various people in power around the world.

In 2017 we need a band like System Of A Down more than ever and, let’s face it, they’re hardly short of source material.
