8. Primitive Man – Caustic (6 October)

Coming together this year for their sophomore album Caustic is the Denver death/doom metal trio Primitive Man. If you thought doom metal had reached its heavy pinnacle, think again. This terrifying group are out to take it one step further (or one rung lower) with their bludgeoning sound.

If first single “My Will” is anything to go by, then Caustic will be utter devastation from start to finish. The song is a thick slab of deathly slow riffs and percussion, combined with the guttural outpourings of vocalist Ethan Lee McCarthy. It’s the stuff of nightmares, with a mood and atmosphere that’s enough to have listeners clawing at the walls.

For all you nihilists out there, if you want a sound that’s going to rip the skin off your face, give this one a spin when it drops. It’s already sounding like it will certainly suffice…
