7. The Haunted – Strength in Numbers (25 August)

For over 20 years, death metal five-piece The Haunted have been caving in skulls with their no-nonsense approach and stunning musicianship, but the best could be yet to come when they drop their upcoming ninth studio album this year, called Strength in Numbers.

The first song to be released was the aptly named “Brute Force,” which exemplifies what this bulldozing outfit is all about – brutal guitar riffs, crushing drumbeats, and venomous screams. The second track from the LP, entitled “Spark,” follows the same pattern of devastating ugliness, however, it’s mixed with some melodic beauty too. All in all, these choice cuts point to an album that could easily match some of the band’s best work.

If they can even come close to equaling the sheer brilliance of their 2004 career highlight Revolver, then Strength in Numbers could certainly be worth keeping an eye out for when it hits stores on 25 August.
