10 Most Bizarre Celebrity Cameos In Music Videos

6. Courteney Cox - Bruce Springsteen's Dancing In The Dark

The oldest music video in our selection, Bruce Springsteen's Dancing in the Dark appears as the question and/or answer in many pub quizzes for its infamous cameo.

Way back in 1984, before becoming one of the most recognisable faces on the planet as Monica Geller in Friends, Courteney Cox was pulled up on-stage at the Saint Paul Civic Center in Minnesota. While it was a live concert, make no mistake about it, this was a video shoot that saw the band perform Dancing in the Dark twice to secure enough footage for the video.

While the four-minute visual accompaniment almost entirely focuses on The Boss, there is one other star featured, who we see featured a handful of times before being increasingly zoomed in on and pulled up on stage to dance with Springsteen. Cox was pre-selected for the role, but Bruce Springsteen didn't know who she was and thought the actress was just a lucky fan.

Not only does this music video live on to this day in pub quiz trivia, it also won the MTV Video Music Award in 1985 for Best Stage Performance and actor Alfonso Ribeiro has claimed the iconic Carlton Dance was inspired by Cox's performance. The song is also still performed live by Springsteen, with many of The Boss' family members joining him on-stage to dance ala-Courteney Cox.
