7. Path Of Totality - Korn

You can't really talk about nu metal without bringing up Korn at one point or another. No matter how you slice it, the band's ferocious debut and Follow the Leader deserve to be alongside acts like Rage Against the Machine and Pantera as the forebearers of what became known as nu metal. Korn may have been there from the start, but the early 2010s saw them doing very nasty things to the genre they helped birth.

It's always necessary for bands to evolve their sound with each passing record, but no one could have really predicted the amount of rancor that came with the rollout for Path of Totality. As opposed to the rhythmic fluctuations and disturbed cries of Jonathan Davis, here was a record that seemed to be dubstep with a nu metal filter. It would be one thing to have an experimental dubstep track with someone like Skrillex, let alone a guest feature on nearly every single cut.

Korn may have wanted to take nu metal into unchartered territory, but this electronic mess was a detour that threw them right into a ditch. As new bands like Fever 333 and Fire From the Gods mark a new resurgence in nu metal, let's hope that they have learned from the past sins of this record.
