9. Jeremy - Pearl Jam

The controversy came from the subject matter that the video dealt with. The titular Jeremy was seen being taunted by classmates and screaming at his parents at the dinner table. Jeremy is the only person to move in the video- creating a sense of surrealism. The verse from the book of Genesis also flashes on the screen which mentions the creation of sin. The video climaxed with Jeremy entering his classroom and standing in front of his classmates. He pulls a gun out from behind his back, puts it in the mouth and pulls the trigger, causing the screen to flash white then to black. The next shot then shows his classmates frozen with his blood all over them. Due to the edited version of the video- which didn't show him put the gun in his mouth- the video is often misinterpreted as that Jeremy had actually shot his classmates instead of himself. Whatever way you look at it though- it was pretty damned controversial.
