10 Most Disappointing Hard Rock Albums Ever Made
1. Chinese Democracy - Guns N Roses
Time can be a dangerous thing to work with when you're a working musician. Whenever you have a phenomenal record come out, you always want to try and strike while the iron is hot, for fear that you will be forgotten the next time trends start to shift. In the case of Axl Rose though, just build anticipation until no one really cares anymore.
Coming off the mammoth double album Use Your Illusion, a new Guns N Roses record would have probably done the trick for a lot of people looking for something new after grunge scene started to go out of style. Even though a lot of the heavy hitters like Slash and Duff McKagan left the fold, there was still some hope that Axl could come through with a great record. What we got though ended up taking over 14 years to eventually come out...and even then Chinese Democracy still felt half finished.
Blowing through an enormous amount of money to get this thing off the ground, Axl's weird opus just feels like a weird solo album that just so happens to have all of the trademarks to Guns N Roses. When putting it against the stellar back catalog of the rock and roll legends, this feels strange even being called a Guns N Roses album. It just goes to show you that when you generate this much buzz for your long lost album, the payoff is never going to be worth it.
