10 Most Disappointing Hard Rock Albums Ever Made
5. Generation Swine - Motley Crue
The idea of Motley Crue reuniting in the mid '90s was not really something that anyone was pining for. If you asked the rock world that same question in the '80s it would be a different story, but the sea change that the rock world went through left no room for the LA sleaze rock scene on the charts anymore. Going back to the roots is one thing though, it's another to try to make something new from the ground up.
Compared to the rest of the band's discography, this feels the polar opposite of what a Motley Crue record should be, with most of the songs having a much more glossy industrial feel to them. Instead of the trademark licks you would get from Mick Mars on the earlier records, various synth patches are put in its place to create something eerie that would fit in right next to Marilyn Manson.
You can tell they were trying to make something akin to a Nine Inch Nails record here, but most of the tracks ended up coming off like has-beens who don't really understand that their time in the sun has long since expired. For as much as people like to see the giants of the '80s back in full force now, the Crue really should stick to what they do best.
