10 Most Disappointing Hard Rock Albums Ever Made

4. Technical Ecstasy - Black Sabbath

Ever since Black Sabbath first got started, it was an anomaly that they had even hit it big in the first place. I mean, when you have the Summer of Love just a few years beforehand, how the hell are you supposed to envision the rock charts being taken over by the doom and gloom coming from the mean streets of Birmingham? For as crazy as the journey to the top was, it became all the more predictable as everything spiraled down.

Getting more and more strung out in the studio, Sabbath were world weary by the time Technical Ecstasy arrived, which really shows once you listen to the licks. Much like the slapdash robot cover, a lot of these songs feel like the guys are doing the bare minimum to make sure you have the bones of a Black Sabbath record, with Ozzy not even showing up for the song It's Alright.

Given that Ozzy had made mention of quitting Black Sabbath during the making of this album, it's a miracle that we even got Never Say Die just a few years later. While both Ozzy and Sabbath would move on to better things in the '80s, this feels like the final gasps of one of the founders of heavy metal.
