It seemed like such an different time back in the early '00s. iTunes was just starting to become a thing, CDs were actually selling, and smartphones were still a distant vision of the future. However, something truly heinous was starting to surface through ringtones.
Back in the golden age of ringtones, "Crazy Frog" came to the forefront and somehow found its way to mainstream media. Centered around a horrendous looking CGI frog, the accompanying song was just a re-interpolation of the synth track "Axel F" from Beverly Hills Cop. Just having a throwback tune from the '80s would have been fine, but these guys had to go and make things weird but giving this frog a voice. You might be jamming to the cheesy melody, then you get yanked right out of it with the "ding ding" and "bam bam" refrains from this amphibious creation.
The whole ringtone boom of the '00s has since fallen by the wayside, but "Crazy Frog" continues to be the earworm that refuses to go away, with people lining up to take a verbal clubbing to this tune. The '00s were amazing for what they were, but this butchering of an '80s tune is something best kept in the previous decade.
