10 Most Divisive Hard Rock Albums

6. Minutes to Midnight - Linkin Park

The entire genre of nu metal is something that most metalheads can claim to have weathered through. Out of all the great bands that came out of the genre, there were at least 12 more coming down the pipeline that were just as insufferable as the last. Although Linkin Park started off on the good end of the spectrum, fans were certainly talking when they decided to move as far away from their original sound as possible.

That's not to say that Minutes to Midnight is an all out bad record, considering the singles like Shadow of the Day and What I've Done still hold up to this day. No, the divisiveness behind this came with how drastic it was. Considering the last thing that we heard from Linkin Park was Meteora, the sudden turn into more straightforward alternative rock was a lot to get used to, especially when things are scaled back this much.

It's not like the aggressiveness has gone anywhere though, with Chester Bennington delivering one of his greatest vocal performances ever on Given Up and even flexing more lyrical prowess on The Little Things Give You Away. Though the music world can definitely handle a switch up from time to time, it's probably a good idea to ease your fans into it a lot better than this.
