10 Most Divisive Hard Rock Albums

5. Theatre of Pain - Motley Crue

When it comes to the more unpopular parts of an artists' catalog, fans can get pretty heated as to why they hate a certain album. Although there might not be anything inherently wrong with the songs, the lyrical content or core meaning behind it might just be so fundamentally wrong that it kills the rest by comparison. Then again, a lot of people forget that being boring is just as bad as being terrible.

As Motley Crue were preparing to release Theatre of Pain, they had gotten a little too big for their spandex pants, spending their money on drugs rather than focusing in on the music. Although the fanbase ate this album up at the time on the back of songs like Home Sweet Home, the rest of this record has come down with criticism for feeling entirely half baked and poorly thought out at best.

It's not like that's a statement that the band necessarily disagrees with either, given that Nikki Sixx and Vince Neil have gone on record for seeing this as a low point in the group's creative life at the time. For as much as people like to glamorize the idea of having an album that flows together, sometimes all you need is a few decent singles to sell your millions around the world.
